ABOUT
Maurice A. Dwyer is an award winning filmmaker that originally hails from Mount Vernon, NY. He attended film school at Temple University in Philadelphia. Upon graduation, Maurice moved back to New York and began working in various capacities on as many films as he could. From there, he then expanded his career path to include acting. Maurice began performing on the New York Stage in such plays as “Raisin in the Sun” and “The Colored Museum”. Maurice transitioned into working as an actor in film and television and eventually landed as guest lead on the CBS television show "Now And Again". While working on his craft in acting, he eventually fell back into his first love - Filmmaking. Success in the film world came when he wrote and directed the award winning short film "Whoa", an urban opera about a man who happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
The film was a hit at Sundance and continued to tour festivals across the world winning various awards. The success of “Whoa” also secured his spot as a semi-finalist for the Chrysler Million Dollar Filmmaker Challenge. As part of the challenge, he wrote and directed a short film in ten days during the Cannes Film Festival in France. Subsequently, Maurice was handpicked to participate in the Fox Searchlab Program. Through this mentorship program, he was given a grant to direct a short film for the Fox Searchlight executives. The next project he directed was “In Time”, his second Sundance selection and a finalist in the American Black Film Festival/HBO Short Film Competition. “In Time” also aired on cable channels HBO and Cinemax. Maurice then directed and produced a web series pilot entitled “The New 20’s” which was selected in the New York Television Festival pilot competition.
Never one to rest on his laurels, Maurice continues to work on his craft with directing music videos and as an assistant director for various short form projects. Maurice currently works as an in house first assistant director within the creative services department for the Walt Disney Company.
